Better Futures, the leaving care pilot, will be extended across the remainder of Victoria from November.

The service, assisting young people to successfully transition from out-of-home-care to independent living, has been trialled successfully in the southern part of Victoria and the Barwon and Goulburn areas.

Better Futures is a new way of supporting care leavers, engaging with young people and their support networks, including case managers and care teams, early in their transition from care. The service provides assertive, outcomes-focussed, flexible and tailored support to young people as they transition from out-of-home care to independence.  The Better Futures worker engages proactively with the young person as they are about to turn 16 years and assists them as they transition from out-of-home care into adulthood up until the age of 21 years. For more information, see the Better Futures (Post Care Service) fact sheet.
