Providing personal care to people with a disability - a guideline for disability support workers and providers.

The Department of Health and Human Services has developed a Providing personal care to people with a disability guide for disability service providers and support workers who provide support to people with a disability.

The purpose of this guide is to assist disability services workers and providers to accommodate a person’s preference for a male or female to provide personal care, where possible.

All people, including people with a disability have the right to feel safe and to be treated with dignity, particularly when they require assistance with personal care.

An easy English fact sheet is also available for people with a disability.

A range of safeguarding tools and resources for disability services providers and workers, including the Providing personal care guideline can be found on the department's website at: http://providers.dhhs.vic.gov.au/disability-abuse-prevention-resources-service-providers
