In the 2018-19 Victorian Budget, the Government committed $172 million to provide tuition fee-free training for TAFE students in key skill priority areas. These areas including health, community services and disability services were chosen to support the roll-out of the NDIS in Victoria, family violence prevention initiatives and help meet the demands of our ageing population.

Free TAFE has led to increases in student enrolments in courses requiring student placements in alcohol and other drugs, child and family services, disability, family violence and mental health. All organisations have a role in developing the future workforce. Student placements provide organisations with the opportunity to strengthen current worker leadership qualities, build upon their knowledge and skills through coaching and mentoring and bring a new energy and perspective to the workplace.

If your organisation is interested in learning more about providing a student work placement opportunity or more about free TAFE, please contact your local TAFE provider. For more information go to TAFE Victoria.
